In the wisdom traditions, it is said that when we remember God in authentic community, the radiance of God’s blessings is magnified many fold. In this class, we shall study selected spiritual insights and practices from the traditions of Sufism, Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism, suited to individual needs of students. Jamal will be teaching this course, which is a theoretical and experiential understanding of spiritual meditative practices, breathing techniques and sound vibrations to relax and energize the body, calm the mind, soften emotional wounds and tap into our innate capacity to experience joy and contentment. Besides drawing on the extensive scientific research on the brain, biofeedback and the relaxation response, we shall study and explore from various traditions the subtle energy systems of the body, power of the subconscious and the effects of breathing exercises and sound vibrations on our emotions. The goal is to create for oneself a set of practices best suited to one's individual's needs and aspirations. For more info, click here.

This popular 16-week class is offered in Seattle in the spring and fall on Mondays from 7–9 p.m., plus two Saturday all-day retreats from 10am to 4pm. Fall class begins in mid-September, spring class begins mid-January. Please check back late summer for 2010-2011 dates.

This course in spiritual deepening and discernment draws upon the practices, insights, and wisdom within Sufism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Key elements include cultivating spiritual qualities and spiritual practices. The class supports a way of being that is prayerfully present and joyously responsive to God's compassion, presence, and guidance.
